Making your house baby safe?
How safe is your home.. would you say it’s baby-proof? We know that accidents can happen but how can we minimise the risk and make our environment as safe as possible? When do you need to start to audit your home and work out what needs to be changed to keep a crawling or walking baby or toddler safe? In this podcast we are going to meet a woman who has made baby and child safety her career. Co-Founder and Product Development Director of global child safety brand ‘Dreambaby’ Carolyn Ziegler is passionate about child safety… you even get the sense she spends a lot of her own time worrying about everyone else’s babies too
We can all relate a story in our childhood where we came close, very close to a disaster, an item swallowed, fingers jammed, slipping across a road without a parent. We can even laugh sometimes at the lack of care it seemed our parents raised us with, no child safety seats, unfenced swimming pools and hard asphalt playgrounds. There is a reason behind our new way of doing things, health experts, researchers and law-makers study the risks and the numbers of accidents and aim to help us develop ways of staying safe and most importantly keeping our children safe.
We are now familiar with ‘baby-proofing’ our houses. We can attach child safety gates, lock dangerous drawers, keep electrical socket safe but there is nothing that can replace a vigilant parent. One woman who has made child safety her life’s work is Carolyn Ziegler, Co-founder and Product Development Director of ‘Dreambaby’ a company you may be surprised to find is Australian.
How did the company begin more than 20 years ago and can Carolyn Ziegler give us an idea of how to realistically ‘baby-proof’ a home? This week’s podcast takes a look at how to keep your baby and toddler safe and some surprising causes of accidents around the world. After listening you (like Carolyn) might see potential danger lurking around the most innocuous corner!
