What can I do if my MagLock® key will not open my cabinet which has the Mag Lock® lock installed inside?

11 Apr 2013 / 0 Comments / in F.A.Q/by TeeZed

Most likely, the cabinet door itself has shifted slightly out of alignment, and what is probably causing the issue. It is not allowing the lock to unlock properly due to the shift, which can happen in cabinet doors, which is most likely a very, very slight shift. (If these have only been installed recently, it can be that the door was ever so slightly propped up when installing, it might need a mini adjustment.)

Try to gently shift (cabinet door usually tends to drop away from hinge side) the door back into what would have been the original position (a slight variation) and then the Maglock® ‘should’ be able to be open. Once opened, the cabinet needs to be adjusted tightly.

Are safety products a guarantee of safety in the home?

11 Mar 2013 / 0 Comments / in F.A.Q/by TeeZed

No. When products are used correctly, they can be wonderful aids to help reduce hazards and injury around the home. They are never a replacement for proper adult supervision. No child should ever be left unattended in any potentially hazardous situation or room such as kitchen, bathroom, near running water, unlocked windows and so forth. It is the responsibility of the parents and carers to maintain the safety of their child and prevent access to hazards within the home or when out and about. It is important to remember that it is every parents’ responsibility to ensure their child’s safety. And remember, babies and toddlers must not be left in the care of other children.

Safety products should all be regularly checked for damage, wear and anything which could lower the efficiency of the product.

What sort of thermometers should I have at home?

11 Mar 2013 / 0 Comments / in F.A.Q/by TeeZed

Dreambaby® has a range of thermometers which can be used for water, room, and child. We have a rapid response thermometer which is very handy to have at home in case your child becomes ill. It can often be very difficult to hold a child still with a thermometer under their arm for a long time whilst waiting for it to measure their temperature. It works in under 10 seconds. Great for adults too. We also have dual action room and bath thermometers, with large digital displays, these thermometers are advised for children and the elderly.

How can I remove adhesive products without causing damage to my walls/furniture?

11 Mar 2013 / 0 Comments / in F.A.Q/by TeeZed

There are a number of recommended methods and cleaning agents which can be used to remove adhesive products from surfaces, without any residue or scratching. The cheapest method is using tea tree or eucalyptus oil, which gently rubs off any remaining adhesive product, without tarnishing the surface. Many supermarkets and DIY stores also sell products specifically for removing sticky, adhesive product. NB: prior to using, test remover on an obscure ‘out of site’ spot on the furniture to confirm there will be no damage.

To remove the taped pressure mounted gates – mounting cups put a tiny drop of Eucalyptus or Tea Tree oil or adhesive solvent to soak into the tape. After a number of minutes allowing it to sink in, try gently pulling the mounting cup only a little distance from the wall, more oil may be required. Then gently twist as you pull it the rest of the way. It will depend on what surface the cups have been attached to, but generally little or no damage should be seen on the finish.

My toddler is always trying to open the kitchen drawers and cupboards to see what is inside them, which is a real hazard. How do I prevent him from hurting himself?

11 Mar 2013 / 0 Comments / in F.A.Q/by TeeZed

Dreambaby® has a very large range of latches and catches for all kinds of drawers and cabinets. It is often recommended that in any household you utilise a number of different types of latches and catches, for added safety around the home. Children learn by watching repetitive actions, so using a few different items is a great idea. They can be removed from the drawers or cupboards at any time, and are very easy for the adult to use. To prevent access into a whole room such as a kitchen however, a safety gate is recommended.

How do I make empty plug sockets safe?

11 Mar 2013 / 0 Comments / in F.A.Q/by TeeZed

Dreambaby® Outlet plug (socket) covers are small, opaque covers that are inserted into the wall socket, preventing injury and electrocution.  You should never leave your child unattended near an open socket. White and silver color are also available

How can I secure areas when I’m on holiday or staying with relatives?

11 Mar 2013 / 0 Comments / in F.A.Q/by TeeZed

A mobile safety gate such as the pressure mountain gate can be used whilst away, as it does not generally require drilling or any damage to surrounding surfaces. This can add extra safety and reassurance whilst out of the home. You can also take plug socket covers, door stoppers and simple safety catches that easily fit onto handles, it makes the time away from home, just so much easier.

How do I maintain the safety gate?

11 Mar 2013 / 0 Comments / in F.A.Q/by TeeZed

Pressure mounted gates should be checked on a regular basis. If they are not closing properly or the installation indicator lines are not correctly positioned it is time to adjust or reinstall the gate.  It can simply be done by ensuring that both sets of twisting adjusters are sturdy and tightened at t the top and bottom. Check the handle, as this will clearly indicate it is aligned or not. Checking your gates on a daily basis helps to maintain safety and security, effectiveness and will also allow you to notice any damage immediately. Simply adjust as required. Like any other product, the correct maintenance will ensure that your gate will work as intended, for the required duration.

Hardware mounted gates need checking also, to ensure all parts are still installed correctly.

How many safety gates will I need?

11 Mar 2013 / 0 Comments / in F.A.Q/by TeeZed

Depends on your home, if you have stairs, at least 2 gates – one for the top and bottom is recommended. Additional gates for bathroom, bedroom and kitchen can be used too. Pressure mounted gates can be mobile if needed. The retractable gate, comes with two sets of fittings which can be mounted in two different locations and the gate itself can be moved from one set of fittings to the other.

Do I need a gate on every door of every room?

11 Mar 2013 / 0 Comments / in F.A.Q/by TeeZed

Safety gates are generally used at the top or bottom of stairs, or to restrict access into the kitchen, bathroom or other unwanted areas of the home, or to keep a child in an area such as the bedroom. If these options are available, it is probably unnecessary for every room to have a gate.
